Mozambique
HACI Mozambique, established in 2002, is a consortium
of Save the Children, Care, Society for Women and AIDS in Africa and
Conselho Religioso em Moçambique. Its initiatives are based
on partnership and community involvement.
HACI Mozambique provides stechnical and financial support to 14
NGOs, faith-based organizations and community-based organizations.
It works closely with the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare and
other organizations which support NGOs, Faith-based organizations
and community-based organizations funded by HACI in specific areas
of expertise. HACI Mozambique partners have programs in six of the
ten diverse geographical areas particularly in the commercial corridors
in south and central areas of the country – Maputo, Gaza,
Inhambane, Manica, Nampula and Zambezia – hardest-hit by the
HIV/AIDS epidemic.
HACI Mozambique provides grants and technical support to partners
and continues to strengthen work with those providing care and support,
education, health, microfinance (IGAs), food and nutrition, counseling
and psychological support to children and families impacted by HIV/AIDS.
It is increasingly being seen as the lead local agency in providing
technical support to community-based organizations working with
children impacted by HIV/AIDS. It has documented life stories through
its partners to highlight the plight of vulnerable children and
continues to develop partnerships in order to expand community-based
responses to address their problems, particularly in areas not reached
by other NGOs.
