Kenya
HACI Kenya has been operational since 2001, supporting
programs that promote the interests of orphans and other vulnerable
children. Since then, it has developed competencies in providing
grants and institutional development support to partners and community-based
organizations.
Currently, HACI Kenya works directly with seven partners: Plan
Kenya, Care Kenya, World Vision Kenya, Save the Children Canada,
Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK), Society for Women and AIDS
in Kenya (SWAK), and the National Empowerment Network of People
Living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya (NEPHAK to respond to the many needs
of orphans and other vulnerable children.
HACI Kenya is aware that the underlying causes of children’s
suffering and abuse are largely contributed to by governance structures
and institutions not just at the local and national levels but also
at the international level. It is against this background that HACI
Kenya works closely with Government structures in promoting and
protecting child rights, engages actively with donors and at the
same time seeks to expand its partnership with the private sector.
These institutions have substantial influence and can make a huge
difference in bringing about radical and long lasting change in
the lives of Kenyan children.
HACI-Kenya’s strategy, to support initiatives aimed at improving
the quality of life for HIV/AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children
in the country through partnership, capacity building, advocacy
and resources mobilisation, is anchored firmly within HACI’s
Circle of Hope Framework. Its main objective is to create strong
strategic alliances and networks of local NGOs and community and
faith-based organisations (CBOs/FBOs) to scale-up successful programs
and interventions that ensure a better and brighter future for vulnerable
children.
HACI Kenya works to facilitate the enhancement of capacities of
communities to deliver effective services that address the crisis
of vulnerable children, and promote and protect their rights.
Its strategies include expanding the funding base, advocacy, enhancing
partnership, networking and communication and research.
