In
a stunning performance held at Harlem's renowned Riverside Church on December
22, Jimmy Cliff, the Harlem Gospel Choir and the Manhattan Samba entertained
a sizeable crowd in the spirit of the Christmas season. In a matinee and
an evening concert "Sounds of Hope" filled the magnificent cathedral near
Columbia University, and celebrated the city's strengthened sense of world
community. World famous Reggae star Jimmy Cliff made his first appearance
in five years in New York City and delighted the crowd with his classic
reggae anthems, "Many Rivers to Cross" and "The Harder they Come", among
other successes. The Harlem Gospel Choir, one of the pre-eminent gospel
choirs in the world, brought additional vitality and beat to the Church
by sharing the joy of faith through their inspirational music. Both performances
were opened and closed by the Manhattan Samba, New York's longest running
authentic Rio de Janeiro inspired all-percussion ensemble.
