St. Rita Nanga Women's Group

St. Rita Nanga Women's Group is a community-based organization established in 1998 with the intent of integrating Home Based Care and support for children orphaned by AIDS. The organization aims to build a network of community caregivers who are motivated enough to contribute towards support and care for orphans through a participatory mechanism. The group seeks to meet the needs of orphans and other vulnerable children through health care, nutrition and food security and education. The organization is managed by a six-member management committee, which also constitutes the Board. A project coordinator manages the daily operations of the group. All members serve the group voluntarily.

Mission:

The organization's mission is to offer sustainable Home-Based Orphan support.

Three main objectives:

  • To contribute directly to the orphans' well-being by providing care and support

  • To mobilize the community to contribute towards supporting orphans

  • To enhance and strengthen networking and collaboration among stakeholders

Activities that require further funding:

The organization has requested for funds from the Hope for African Children Initiative to expand the following HIV/AIDS- focused activities:

  • Home-based care

  • Awareness and advocacy

  • Income generating activities

  • Capacity building (for management and communities)
